What exactly do BT engineers do in the green street cabinets?
Check out this video which reveals exactly what BT Opeanreach engineers are up to when you see them fiddling with the green on-street cabinets.
I think it’s fair to say BT Openreach, who are in charge of the installation and maintenance of most the Britain’s telephone and broadband infrastructure, aren’t always the most popular bunch with service providers like us and end users alike.
A lot of this is due to the lack of transparency from Openreach as to what exactly they do, or have been doing, when you’re having a line installed or a fault investigated. In our experience a good Openreach engineer will take the time to explain to customers what is happening, but a bad engineer will just do what’s on their ticket a disappear, which can be frustrating to say the least!
Which is why it’s good to see a video like this from a BT Openreach engineer called Tony (one of the good ones, we’re sure) where he runs through how they get their jobs assigned, what exactly they do in the cabinet and at the customer end and what tools they use.
It’s really interesting, and it’s good to see Openreach allowing a little light in on their otherwise mysterious world!
Please bear in mind that we do not have control over any of the Openreach Street Cabinets. If you have issues with on Openreach Cabinet which you would like to report, please see the below link with information about who you should contact.
